Title - Story about employee with lack of systems/boundaries/communication/leadership Tags - businesssystems communication leadership

When I worked at Kameleon, Chris wanted to be less and less involved in the doing.

I respected that.

But his actions weren’t always consistent.

He’d often come out of the office to stick his nose into the doing of the work.

At the same time, I once asked him a question as he walked past - which is the exact situation in which he approached us to get involved - and he bit my head off.

The “rules” hadn’t been communicated.

What could we ask him about?

When could we speak to him?

Where did our roles end?

Finally, we didn’t know what his new role was, how the role met the needs of the business, and where we fitted in.

Each of these things made it difficult to work for Chris and for the business.

I didn’t know how to communicate with Chris personally or what my role and purpose was.
