Title - Ineffective structures for producing results Tags - creativeprocess structures structuraltension

Two forms of manipulation used by the masses to get what they want:

  1. Negative consequences

“Do it or suffer” is a form of conflict manipulation. It makes you feel bad. The bad feeling then motivates action to get rid of the bad feeling. The actions taken reduce the bad feelings which, in turn, reduces the motivation to act. This structure is unsustainable and ultimately ineffective at producing results.

  1. The carrot and the stick

The carrot represents all the benefits that will come your way if you take action even though you don’t want to. This is a form of willpower manipulation. It’s what positive thinking gurus teach/provide. They get you pumped up and inspired to act. But what happens when the inspiration runs out? What happens on days that you don’t feel inspired?

Fear from conflict manipulation, and inspiration from willpower manipulation, can both result in temporary action, but neither is ultimately effective at producing end results.
