Healthcare analyst

I’m working as a clinical systems analyst, on a multi-org implementation of Epic (an electronic health record), for the NHS.

Family memoir

My son was critically ill last year and I'm writing a memoir about the experience. It's helping me to process what happened. One day, I'll pass a copy on to my son and daughter.

Data science

Frank's illness, and our experience of the National Health Service (NHS), stoked to my desire to understand and influence how decisions are made in complex systems like healthcare.

I'm currently doing a combination of data science/analytics course on Code Academy - learning SQL, Python, BI tools, and a variety of other skills.

With this foundation in place, and the snowball gathering pace, I'll likely focus on practicing on some data from a private healthcare practice my wife and I ran.

Business liquidation

Before Frank was ill, my wife operated a private obstetric ultrasound clinic (scanning babies). She loved helping expectant parents. And she was loved by the community. But she grew bored of the role, tired of regulations, and frustrated by the investment-reward ratio.

When Frank was in hospital, Maria could no longer deliver the service, the expenses piled up, and she decided to close the clinic and move on to pastures new when Frank recovered.

So for the last few months, I've been helping to liquidate the business. We're nearly there now. We've sold all of the assets and arranging delivery/collection.

As a business, it's never been profitable enough to sustain, and it's not even close to the best use of our time, energy, capital, or expertise. So it'll be a big relief and milestone to move on.
