This spring marks a pivotal milestone as the NHS Federated Data Platform (NHS FDP) completes its first year of operation.
We have exceeded our implementation targets with 72 Hospital Trusts now realising benefits from use of the platform - surpassing our goal of 71 for this financial year. The commitment across the NHS is clear, with 108 Hospital Trusts and 41 Integrated Care Boards already signed up.
The impact on patient care has been immediate and meaningful, with the platform supporting 70,000 extra surgeries through increased theatre utilisation.
Expanding Our Vision
Having successfully established the programme’s foundation, our second year focuses on amplifying impact. We have created a dedicated workstream to partner with Community and Mental Health NHS Trusts, addressing their specific challenges through tailored data solutions.
The NHS FDPs expansion aims to:
• Foster truly integrated care pathways
• Reduce waiting times through optimised resource management
• Enable more care delivery outside acute settings
• Lower operational costs across the system
• Reduce administrative burdens on staff
• Improve continuity of care through enhanced data sharing

NHS FDP Quarter 3 Benefits published
Newly published figures for Quarter 3 show:
• Nearly 70,000 additional patients have undergone procedures in theatres since the NHS FDP roll out began.
• There’s been an 18.8% decrease in the average number of delay days for long stay patients
• An increase in the checks that the right actions have been taken along the patients care pathway, with over 270,000 patients removed from the waiting list for a number of reasons. (View Highlight)
