I’m curious about the different types of stock and flow online and how to choose the best one for you.
Flow is usually assumed to have to be social media. But I don’t enjoy social media. So I’m curious about other ways to be social via media that are more aligned with my interests.
For example, what if my flow was a combination of digital garden notes and direct communication with the people I admire in the areas I’m exploring with my notes.
So if flow is seedlings in my garden plus communication with people that I can build on these ideas with, what could stock be?
What most appeals to me is blog posts optimised for online searches. It’s writer-oriented, permissionless, and a natural evolution of flow if flow is notes plus conversation.
Stock and flow could then evolve into new forms. Emails as flow and products (with sales pages) as stock.
Actually, it’s less an evolution and more of an expansion. Emails selling products don’t replace notes and SEOd blog posts. At least, I wouldn’t want them to, because that would mean an end to developing new ideas and an end to the search for truth.
So what if the following worked well online?
Phase 1
Flow: emails to individuals Stock: digital garden notes
Phase 2
Flow: SEO Stock: Blog posts, lead magnets
Phase 3
Flow: emails to list Stock: digital products, sales pages
This could be considered a writer’s path to carving out a piece of the internet.
