OPCS-4 is a statistical classification of operations, procedures, and interventions - in the form of alphanumeric codes - used in the NHS.

OPCS codes provide detailed clinical information that feed higher-level HRG codes, which in turn form the basis of activity-based information in the NHS.

Healthcare Resource Groups (HRG) codes are 5-character alphanumeric codes used to group patient events that consume a similar level of resources.

Each HRG code has a corresponding tariff price, that is set nationally, based on the average cost of services reported by NHS providers in the annual reference costs collection.
