Title - Analyse systems from a distance Tags - businesssystems

A mechanic would be useless if he didn’t know that a car is made of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems and understand that they work together to make the car function.

Similarly, as a business owner, it’s critical to understand that a business is a set of systems - finance, marketing, operations, etc. - that work together to deliver value to the market.

However, it’s difficult to see the big picture when you’re involved in the operation of the business. It’s hard to see the forest for the trees.

A cogwheel in a machine only knows about the other cogwheels it touches. You can only see how to complete mechanism works by zooming out and watching the cogwheels in relation to the rest of the machinery.

So to the analyse the systems in your life, you have to take a step back and look at them as an outsider would (or actually get an outsider to do this for you!)

You can then see how the system fits together and you can break it down, identify weaknesses in the processes, and find opportunities to improve.
