Will I need a transvaginal (internal) scan?
An internal scan is only necessary if it’s not possible to assess baby’s health accurately from the abdomen.
In this case, it can be helpful because the ultrasound probe is closer to the womb, which means getting a better view of the womb, ovaries and pregnancy.
The earlier you are in your pregnancy, the higher the chance of needing an internal scan. The odds drop dramatically after 9 weeks.
In truth, I’ve only had to do a few internal scans since I opened the clinic in 2019 because the machine I use for your scan is so clear.
I’m afraid that doesn’t guarantee you won’t be one of the few who need an internal scan, but it’s less likely than at your NHS scan or some other private scans.
To discuss this - including how likely it is that an internal scan will help at different gestations - contact me by completing an enquiry form or by requesting an appointment for an early pregnancy scan.
