If you get a referral, thank the referrer for it but also give them a status report - e.g. whether they did anything with you, how it went, etc. - as they’ll appreciate knowing how you handled it and will be more likely to refer in future. Also, if they didn’t become a client, you can explain why, and that will help the referrer re-frame WHO you are looking for as clients. It also gives you control over what the referrer is told about what happened, which is especially important if it didn’t go well.
