Your mission and purpose should support the mission and purpose of other people. BUT, you should only negotiate if support the other person’s mission and purpose helps you achieve yours. If you don’t have one in place, you can’t possibly decide whether the negotiation does that, and so you end up working on other people’s mission and purpose by default.
