Title - Organisation of stories Tags - influentialwritingorganisation

To be effective and prolific as an influential writer, you must write and inventory stories in an organised way, with the same building blocks used repeatedly and methodically.

There are three building blocks for stories:

1) Story events

A story event is an experience, encounter, conversation (or similar) that creates meaningful change in your life situation and can be expressed and experienced in terms of a value: a benefit to the reader/listener/viewer.

a) Achieved through conflict (with others or self)

A story event achieved through conflict is one where you (or someone else) triumphed out of a conflict with yourself or other people.

b) Achieved through overcoming adversity

c) Achieved through discovery

An example of a story event achieved through discovery is Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s Psycho-Cybernetics discovery story - that your inner image is as or more important than your external image.

d) Achieved through a teacher (mentor, coach, wise man, etc.)

A “blackie story” is a type of “discovered through a teacher” story that originated in the gambling industry. It’s where a wise old person tells you all their secrets on their death bed and you carry it on in the world.

2) Story lines

Storylines are a selection of events from your life story, organised into a strategic sequence - with a beginning, middle and end - to arouse specific emotions. They allow you to use the same stories, in a different order, to make different points.

3) Values
