Title - Give your audience a valid frame of reference for everything Tags - influentialwritingframeofreference
Write things which the people you are seeking to influence have a frame of reference for. For example, writing to a 18-year-old about an obscure 70’s musician will be ineffective because, unless you have reason to believe they have an interest in 70’s music, chances are that they won’t understand or connect with the reference.
Remember that the goal is to provide a frame of reference which is valid for your AUDIENCE - not you - and they probably have much narrower knowledge base in comparison (as marketers tend to be perpetual information gatherers).
Comedian Jay Leino is excellent at providing a valid frame of reference. For virtually every joke he tells, he provides a frame of reference that EVERYBODY can follow. If he doesn’t, they won’t laugh. If you don’t give it in writing, they won’t be infleunced.
